Write about receiving kindness, and about your kindness toward others

Moments of warmth between you and others: small favours, kind words, good company.

Kindness is the part of a day least likely to be written down. It arrives small, a colleague covering ten minutes, a neighbour taking a parcel in, somebody letting you finish a sentence, and small things pass through the memory without leaving marks. What gets recorded instead is the friction, the argument, the delay, the rude message. Not because the day held more of it, but because it was louder.

Take the last twenty-four hours and look for every kindness that came from you, and every kindness that came towards you from someone else. Be exact. Do not write only that your sister was nice; write what she actually did, when, and what it saved you. The precision matters, because a vague memory of kindness comforts nobody, while a specific one is evidence, of what other people are like, and of what you are like.
